Another Glorious Tahoe Summer

When you ask people about Tahoe, it is often said “they came for the winter, but stayed for the summer.” There are arguably better ski destinations in North America, but I’ve never heard anyone claim that their ski town is better than Tahoe in the summer. This past weekend, I had a super fun multi-sport day wakesurfing with my friends Mark and Julie and then rallying an all-female crew to ride to “the Bench” – a technical 15 mile out and back mountain bike ride along the scenic Tahoe Rim Trail.

My very talented friend Adam just released this video summing up his winter and summer visits to his home of Lake Tahoe while he is away at school. Check it out. It will make you wish you grew up here.

I’m continuously grateful to call Lake Tahoe home and will be savoring the last week of summer!

Working for the Weekend…

Labor day weekend that is. I’m alive, but haven’t had much time to post since I’ve been working too many hours per week on a stream restoration project in Incline Village, NV. This 3 year restoration effort will help keep 10,000 Cubic Yards of sediment out of Lake Tahoe every year!

Building a new channel for Rosewood Creek

Well worth my time! Plus, the commute along the east shore allows for after work swims on the way home!

Nice way to end an long, dusty day and definitely worth keeping blue!

SheJumps SUP Yoga on Lake Tahoe

We met just before 8 AM at the newly renovated El Dorado Beach on Tahoe’s South Shore. The water was glassy, which was a good thing, because we were heading out to try yoga on stand up paddleboards. The beach was bustling with other people renting boards from South Tahoe Standup, which is conveniently located in an immaculate new boathouse right on the beach. Eight women headed out on boards under the guidance of our teacher, Jenay from Svadhyaya Yoga. For most it was the first time doing yoga on a stand up paddleboard or SUP, as people call it for short. And for some, it was the first time on a SUP ever. The lake is stunning at this hour. You can see every detail on the bottom and all the way across the lake. We are enveloped in blue.

Heading out to try our hands and heads at SUP Yoga

We paddled a bit getting used to our boards which would serve as our “mats” for the next hour and a half. Jenay then lead us through an hour-long yoga practice. Poses that were easy for me in the yoga studio were incredibly challenging. At the end of the class, we took some time to try out crow, headstand, and other balance poses. When all my balancing muscles were exhausted, I simply fell in the lake which was the perfect cushion and temperature.

It was an amazing way to spend a morning and definitely introduces both new challenges and beauty into yoga. And thanks to Svadhyaya Yoga and all the amazing participants, we were able to raise some funds for SheJumps to continue initiating awe-inspiring programs!
